The clean water of the Delaware, the last major undammed river in the eastern United States, supports a healthy ecosystem and offers tranquility and excitement.

Upper Delaware Scenic and Recreational River is open year-round. Limited river access may occur during winter months due to ice and snow build up on public accesses. River information may be obtained by calling the park's River Hotline at 845-252-7100. This hotline is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week from May 1 to October 1.

The year 2019 was the 21st wettest and 24th warmest recorded at the park since 1895.
In all, 2020 was very warm year on the upper Delaware but total annual precipitation was near normal. The year ended as the 3rd warmest and 60th wettest on record.
In all, 2021 was a very warm year on the upper Delaware with total annual precipitation that was also above normal. The year ended as the 5th warmest and 23rd wettest on record.
The Upper Delaware Scenic and Recreational River experienced a very warm 2022 though total precipitation was closer to normal. In all, the year ranked as the 18th warmest and 49th wettest on record (since 1895).
Upper Delaware Scenic and Recreational River had a near record-setting year for temperature. Total precipitation was also well above normal. The year ended as the 2nd warmest and 13th wettest on record.

Parks are a great place to appreciate turtles in their natural habitat. NPS is now studying at-risk land turtles in the Mid-Atlantic to better understand how to help them survive into the future.
Little brown bats, a species that is rare across the Northeast because of white-nose syndrome, can still be found in unusually large colonies at Upper Delaware Scenic and National River. In order to protect these populations, scientists are studying little brown bats, as well as the entire bat community, in the park.
