Washington Monument closed one day each month for maintenance
Closures for 2025: Dec 11, 25. Closures for 2026: Jan 8, Feb 3, Mar 4, Apr 6, May 7, Jun 2, July 8, Aug 3, Sep 10, Oct 5, Nov 11,26, Dec 25. The monument is also closed for the Holidays on July 4 and Dec 25 each year.

As “America’s Front Yard,” the National Mall and Memorial Parks is home to many of our country’s most iconic memorials telling the story of people and events that shaped us as a nation. Each year, millions of people come to recreate, commemorate presidential legacies, honor our veterans, and make their voices heard.

Hours & seasons
The public may visit the sites of National Mall and Memorial Parks 24 hours a day, with the exception of the Washington Monument which is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Rangers are on duty at the sites to answer questions from 9:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. in November - February. They are on duty from 9:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. in March - October. Rangers offer interpretive programs daily and provide programs and information upon request. Rangers and volunteers will not be available Dec. 25, the park is still open to visitors.

On January 20, 1953, Dwight D. Eisenhower took the oath of office as the 34th President of the United States. In his Inaugural Address that day, Eisenhower laid out the challenges facing the United States, as well as ways he believed the American people could rise to the occasion and meet them.
Where visitors now stroll through memorials and green spaces, a huge collection of temporary office buildings once stood.
A temporary exhibition at Freedom Plaza now features twelve bronze statues of Revolutionary War soldiers arranged in a civic tableau commemorating the 250th anniversary of American independence.
The Woman Suffrage Procession along Pennsylvania Avenue on March 3, 1913, the day before Woodrow Wilson's presidential inauguration, used pageantry to raise awareness about women's exclusion from the nation's political process. The publicity following the event re-energized the woman suffrage movement in the United States.
Future Prime Minister Winston Churchill visited several American sites with his brother in 1929, including New York City, Virginia battlefields, Gettysburg Battlefield, and Washington DC.
