The New Orleans Jazz NHP & Jean Lafitte NHP&P have a combined French Quarter Visitor Center at 419 Decatur Street. Open Tuesdays through Saturdays, 9:30 am to 4:30 pm. Calendar for events: https://www.nps.gov/jazz/planyourvisit/calendar.

View the recipients of the 2025 National Park Service Excellence in Interpretation Awards, which recognize outstanding contributions to the practice of interpretation and education by NPS employees.
Meet Manuel Santos who spent his 2021 Summer working as an intern at the New Orleans Jazz National Historical Park, as part of the Latino Heritage Internship Program. One of the main reasons he loved working at this park was because it honors the importance and beauty of Jazz and its history.
The Gullah Geechee Ring Shouters and the Winnsboro Easter Rock Ensemble gathered in South Louisiana to in 2024 to share some of their respective sacred traditions with each other for the first time. This program brought both groups together to mentor young people and ensure both the Ring Shout, and the Easter Rock continue for future generations through a series of public performances, lesson plans, interviews and cultural sharing.

Jean Lafitte in life and death has been praised and condemned for his actions. His actions caused great harm to some and great good for others. Neither part of Lafitte’s story can be true without the other. His impact was far reaching and long-lasting for people, nations, and legends. His is a history filled with the good and the bad, the bold and the resourceful. It is the history of a person whose life is as dynamic as the story of not only Louisiana, but also the nation.
Come to the city where jazz was born and visit the National Park Service site that traces its story from West African drums to modern influences. New Orleans Jazz National Historical Park is small in size, but it tells a story as big as America.
